Our Mission

It all started in Baifra, West Africa

In 2018, Chaplain Sunday embarked on a mission trip to Biafra, West Africa, with bro. Eric Mcgrow of Lincoln Avenue Church of Christ, Altadena, California. The mission trip brought about renovation of a sorely looking church building in the village of Umuaja. During his time there, Chaplain Sunday and bro. Eric worked with Brother Friday Njoku, the preacher at the church. Bro. Njoku’s contribution to the preaching of the gospel is unquantifiable, a sound Preacher and defender of the faith.

The remodeling of the church was a blessing on its own but Chaplain Sunday and bro. Eric found that their hearts were broken for the local widows of the village who worship in the Church.

These women were left without husbands and without means to care for themselves and their children. They realized that they had drive and skills, but simply not enough means to put them to use. As their hearts ached for them, a plan was made. They were going to help. We started small, trying to raise some funds to help these women get started. We were able to raise $1250 starting out. Each widow received 150,000 Naira to help them start a trading business in their area. It wasn’t much, but it got them started.

Our Current Campaign

The DoGood Foundation for Widows and Needy, inc. non-profit organization was started by Chaplain Sunday with this mission in mind. To live out the Word of God and bring him glory through loving and caring for those that need it.

We are starting our journey with a campaign to raise money for these widows. We want to provide them with enough resources to start, maintain, and prosper their own businesses and support themselves. We are focusing our attention on this campaign. All donations will be send to this project. If you wish to learn more or donate, please click below.

Chaplain (Major) Iheanyicukwu Sunday

“I was motivated to start DoGood Foundation for Widows and Needy, Inc in order to live out James 1:27 which says, “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and the widow in their affliction and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” I believe that putting the word of God into practice is the best way to live as a christian. It is through living out God's word as we read them in the Scripture that God truly manifests Himself to us and our faith increases as He does that.

Besides that, another motivation for pioneering the nonprofit is the poor living conditions of widows I came in contact with during my mission trip to my village Church of Christ located in Biafra, West Africa in 2018. The widows, like other widows in third world countries, do not have social security benefits and lack basic amenities such as electricity, clean water, health service, etc. Therefore, in starting the Foundation I believe that even though we cannot help all widows but at least we can help one or two.

Our Churches are doing a very good job of helping widows but it is not enough due to limited resources to do so. Therefore, the DoGood Foundation is out to supplement what our Churches are doing by helping one or two widows at a time to the glory of Christ Jesus and His Father.

Moreover, as a Chaplain with the US Army, I do come across veterans' widows who need spiritual, emotional and financial support to supplement what the US Government paid them for losing their loved ones. This is because the death benefits paid by the government are not enough to cater for the needs of veterans' widows, especially with young children that need to be fed and educated in college. Our nonprofit will be there to support them by supplementing what the government death benefit could not cover.

Therefore, join us in this mission and be blessed.”
